Pluralism Confirmed

The Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life has published a controversial survey on the “Christian’s” view of eternal life and how one gets there. The survey, which is also commented on here, essentially shows how much of a Christian Nation we are not.

At its heart, the survey shows that 65 percent of Americans believe that religions, other than their own, can lead to eternal life. The results are sad, but really not surprising. At a time in history where ignorance of the Bible is at an all time high and America’s Evangelical “leaders” are as squishy as ever, this survey really only serves to confirm the sad state of affairs that is American Evangelicalism.

Here are a couple examples of “leadership” that we have had dominating the airwaves for years:

The “Church of Oprah” probably does not help matters either!

The word that describes this survey and the prevalent viewpoint it reflects is: pluralism. Firstly, pluralism is absolutely illogical and is by no means Christianity … No matter who promotes it.

The Bible is unflinching in its description of the requirements for Christians. Those requirements are … uh … Narrow. Why is it so narrow and un-inclusive you ask? The answer is quite simple really. There is only one God (Isaiah 45:5, Isaiah 43:10-11) and like it or not, the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the means by which God the Father has set forth to redeem a sinful and wicked humanity to himself. Outside of Christ there is nothing but condemnation. But, the good news is that this narrowness is available to anyone who repents of their sins and puts their trust in Christ’s righteousness.

Consider these words from Christ himself describing the nature of Christianity:

“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. Matthew 7:13-14

and:

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6
